Brooke Point 4, Albemarle 1

Black-Hawks' starting pitcher Evan Houde notched another Commonwealth District win, Houde's 4th straight, for Brooke Point in a 4-1 victory over the Albemarle Patriots last night at Brooke Point. Houde pitched 6 solid innings giving up just 1 run (unearned) and striking out three. He also added a RBI single.

Third baseman J.J. McDaniel hit a towering solo home run over the left-field fence in the fourth inning and shortstop Chris Denno went 2-3 for the Hawks who are now 6-1 in Commonwealth District play.

In the Commonwealth Division regular season race the Hawks remain a half-game behind the North Stafford Indians (7-1) who topped Mountain View 7-2 last night. In other district action yesterday Massaponax won over Colonial Forge 3-1.

Brooke Point 7, Mountain View 6

Black-Hawks' starting pitcher Andrew Tyree notched another Commonwealth District win for Brooke Point in a 7-6 victory over the Wildcats last night at Mountain View. Outfielder Evan Houde went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in on a double to help Brooke Point to its fifth straight district win. Tyree also had a run batted in on a double. Second baseman Connor O'Hara scored one run and drove in another for the Black-Hawks.

With North Stafford's 10-0 win over Massaponax last night the Black Hawks (5-1) remain 1/2-game behind the 1st-place Wolverines (6-1).

In other Commonwealth action yesterday Albemarle defeated Riverbend 2-1 and Colonial Forge won another close one over Stafford 5-4. Brooke Point hosts the Albemarle Patriots on Tuesday in another Commonwealth District match-up.

Black-Hawk Schedule Update

Tonight's away game against the Albemarle Patriots has been postponed until Monday, May 3rd, at 6:00 pm due to rain.

Black-Hawks 9, Wolverines 3

In Commonwealth District action last night the second place Black-Hawks defeated the first place Wolverines 9-3 at North Stafford. Brooke Point is now 4-1 in district play while North Stafford retains a ½-game lead at 5-1.

Evan Houde started for the Black-Hawks and lefty Sean Kennedy for the Wolverines. Houde pitched five strong innings to notch the win. Chris Denno relieved Houde in the sixth inning and Nate Connaughton came in for Kennedy, also in the sixth.

Houde gave up 3 runs, struck out four, scattered 6 hits, and gave up only 1 walk for his third district win of the season.

Shortstop Denno had a three-run homerun in the fifth inning and third baseman J.J. McDaniel was 1-for-2 with a solo homerun in the second.

Second baseman and shortstop David Dilegge went 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a RBI. Houde went 1-for-2 with a run batted in and a sacrifice bunt. Designated hitter and second baseman Connor O'Hara, outfielder Thomas Washington, and catcher Travis Cole all went 1-for-3 with Cole recording two RBIs and a sacrifice fly for the night. First baseman Andrew Tyree went 1-for-4 with a RBI double.

Wolverines’ shortstop Tyler Skidmore led North Stafford’s offense going 3-for-4 with a homerun.

The Hawks take on the Albemarle Patriots today in Charlottesville for another Commonwealth District matchup.

Brooke Point 5, Massaponax 3

The Black-Hawks won their third straight Commonwealth District game by defeating the Panthers 5-3 last night at Massaponax. Brooke Point displayed solid pitching and defense while recording 9 hits. Massaponax recorded 5 hits for the night.

Starting pitcher Andrew Tyree threw 6 strong innings for the win while recording 5 strikeouts. Tyree also hit 2 RBI doubles. Chris Denno came on in the 7th inning to close for the Black-Hawks.

Second baseman Connor O'Hara and shortstop Denno hit back-to-back solo home runs over the left field fence in the second inning. Third baseman J.J. McDaniel (triple), centerfielder Evan Houde (double), and first baseman and shortstop David Dilegge (double) all had extra base hits for the Black-Hawks. Dilegge went 2-for-4 for the night with a RBI.

Catcher Cameron Tubbs went 2-for-3 with a double for the Panthers.

The Black-Hawks' next district game is Tuesday night at North Stafford.

Black-Hawks 4, Bears 1

A four-run second inning for Brooke Point proved to be enough to coast to a Commonwealth District win over visiting Riverbend. Evan Houde struck out seven, walked two and allowed six hits in six innings' work. Reliever Chris Denno allowed no hits in Houde's relief.

Brooke Point (3-5, 2-1) visits Massaponax on Friday.

Hawks Drop Opener at Wheels Tournament

The Brooke Point Black-Hawks lost their first game at the Wheels Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina, 14-3 against the Lancaster Bruins yesterday. Black-Hawks starter Evan Houde gave up nine hits and nine runs while striking out four in three innings of work. Gary Pisall came on in relief in the fourth. 9 fielding errors committed by the Black-Hawks kept this game from even being close.

The Black-Hawks offense included 2 hits in 3 at bats by third baseman J.J. McDaniel. Andrew Tryee, Gary Pisall, Ryan Carder, David Dilegge, Matt Cammuse and Drew Bell all had singles. Lancaster totaled 16 hits and committed only one error. Brooke Point totaled 8 hits and is now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in division play.

The Black-Hawks have two games today at Rock Hill, 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm.

Black-Hawks 3, Eagles 1

In an exciting extra-inning Commonwealth Division game the Brooke Point Black-Hawks handed the Colonial Forge Eagles their first loss of the season 3-1 with a walk-off 2-run homer by 3rd baseman JJ McDaniel in the bottom of the 9th.

The game was marked by very strong pitching performances on both sides. Brooke Point starter Andrew Tyree recorded 6 strikeouts and 2 walks while only giving up 1 run in 7 innings. Black-Hawk reliever Chris Denno pitched the final two innings striking out six straight batters. Colonial Forge starter Cody Quick also pitched strong giving up one run while recording 2 strikeouts and 1 walk. Eagles reliever Chase Boster took the mound in the 7th and recorded 4 strikeouts and 1 walk while holding the Black-Hawks hitless until McDaniel’s shot over the left-center fence.

The Eagles got their only run in the 1st on outfielder Darin Sharpes’ RBI single that scored outfielder Ben Jones who had reached on a Brooke Point error.

Brooke Point answered in the 3rd with rightfielder Gary Pisell’s solo home run over the left field fence.

Brooke Point is now 2-1 overall and 1-1 in division play.

Next on the schedule for the Black-Hawks is the Wheels Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina, April 8th through the 10th.

Indians 6, Black-Hawks 3

The Brooke Point Black-Hawks opened Commonwealth Division play at home Wednesday with a 6-3 loss against the Stafford Indians. Indian pitcher Diven Pernia went the distance giving up 5 hits and striking out 2. Black-Hawks starter Evan Houde and reliever Chris Denno gave up 9 hits to the Indians. Houde pitched 5 and 2/3 innings giving up 7 hits and recorded 3 strike outs, 1 walk and 4 earned runs. Denno took the mound in the top of the 6th inning giving up 2 hits and recording 1 strike out, no walks and 1 run allowed through the 7th.

The Indians scored two runs in the 1st with lead-off batter centerfielder Cody Beacorn singling followed by leftfielder Marcus Bumbry reaching first on an error and an RBI single by 3rd baseman Justin Pierce. 2nd baseman Chaz Tanner then hit a sacrifice fly for the second Indian run.

The Black-Hawks came back in the 3rd to tie the game at 2-2. With 1 out rightfielder Gary Pisall doubled to left field and with 2 outs 2nd baseman David Dilegge doubled to left to drive in Pisall. Catcher Travis Cole then singled to left field scoring centerfielder Thomas Washington who had reached on a single. Dilegge attempted to score but was thrown out at home.

The Indians took the lead for good in the top of the fourth when, with one out, rightfielder Kody Jones doubled to right field and subsequently stole third base. Catcher David Brooks grounded to third base and took first as JJ. McDaniel threw Jones out at home. Brooks stole two bases and was on third when Indian shortstop Brandon Carroll doubled for an RBI. Carroll was then thrown out attempting to steal third to end the inning.

In the 6th, Patrick Marshall led off with a single and reached third on a throwing error. Pierce then hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Marshall. 1st baseman Justin Sullivan walked and, after stealing second, scored on a single by Jones.

In the top of the 7th Pernia doubled off the centerfield wall and scored on a single by Beacorn. The Black-Hawks scored one in the bottom of the inning with McDaniel reaching on a fielding error and subsequently scoring on a single by Pisall.
