In an exciting extra-inning Commonwealth Division game the Brooke Point Black-Hawks handed the Colonial Forge Eagles their first loss of the season 3-1 with a walk-off 2-run homer by 3rd baseman JJ McDaniel in the bottom of the 9th.
The game was marked by very strong pitching performances on both sides. Brooke Point starter Andrew Tyree recorded 6 strikeouts and 2 walks while only giving up 1 run in 7 innings. Black-Hawk reliever Chris Denno pitched the final two innings striking out six straight batters. Colonial Forge starter Cody Quick also pitched strong giving up one run while recording 2 strikeouts and 1 walk. Eagles reliever Chase Boster took the mound in the 7th and recorded 4 strikeouts and 1 walk while holding the Black-Hawks hitless until McDaniel’s shot over the left-center fence.
The Eagles got their only run in the 1st on outfielder Darin Sharpes’ RBI single that scored outfielder Ben Jones who had reached on a Brooke Point error.
Brooke Point answered in the 3rd with rightfielder Gary Pisell’s solo home run over the left field fence.
Brooke Point is now 2-1 overall and 1-1 in division play.
Next on the schedule for the Black-Hawks is the Wheels Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina, April 8th through the 10th.
